Turned on TV news this morning – like you do – for the local weather reports. Yes yes yes, I know I can just look outside but I want to know what the weather’s doing later this week as I have a couple of events to attend and when you live where I do, at this time of year the weather can dictate whether you go to the ball or stay home full of fret and regret. As I’m bit of a news junkie I tried all the stations offering us “news” and what were most of them wittering and yarking on about but shopping! Today, apparently, is Manic Monday. Oh they don’t call it that but that’s what it is. We’re all going to be out there shopping, allegedly. Only they didn’t bother to add the allegedly.
We’ll be shopping online, we’ll be shopping in the high streets, we’ll be shopping on the beaches, we’ll be shopping in our sleep and oh just LOOK at what we’ll be buying. Time was the BBC was very strict about not running adverts. Not anymore. The so-called news programmes are full of them. Some new computery gamey thingy was out last week – don’t ask ME to namecheck any products here apart from the theatre which needs all the help it can get.
BBC devoted acres of coverage to it. Free advertising guys, that’s all it is. Free advertising. I remember when Blue Peter used to cover up cereal packets so strict were the guidelines: No Advertising On The BBC! Now they blithely advertise their opponents! Hey, why not watch this programme on a rival channel they encourage viewers. Quite balmy. Wouldn’t it be great to have a space in the media that wasn’t festooned with adverts? The BBC used to be that place. Not anymore!
Sad Sunday night
Felt bit low last night and couldn’t work out why. So I tweeted to ask if anyone else felt same way and got lots of lovely responses. Seems it’s a common feeling. That felt like a sort of relief. A hangover from homework days seemed to be the general gist. We never quite get over that impending sense of doom. We’ve had all weekend to do our homework and if we’d any sense, we’d have done it Friday night soon as we got home but oooooh no! We wait till Sunday evening knowing it won’t be nearly as good as it could’ve been. And it ruins our Sunday nights.
But what we don’t realise is that it’ll ruin our Sunday nights forever more! It’s now more than 40 years since I left school and had to do homework Sunday night to hand in the next day. But the Sunday night blues still descend most Sundays with a depressing regularity. If you have kids, or you are yourself a small person, take a tip from me and millions of others who get depressed on a Sunday night – make sure homework is done Friday!
Diet goes well
The diet is going well at the moment. No idea if am losing anything but the smaller-size bra I bought earlier in the year now leaves no trace when I take it off. A good sign! Could maybe even try a smaller size. I haven’t measured for a while and nor have I weighed in. But I feel slightly slimmer. Should I buy some bathroom scales? I fear if I do I’ll become obsessed with my weight and be weighing in all the time. Not sure that’s a good idea. But there again, not all that sure not knowing is good either.
Overeat
If I go over, I may overeat in a sod it what’s the point way. If I’m same weight, I may overeat in a sod it what’s the point way. And if I’ve lost weight, I may overeat in a sod it why not way. Way I see it, you can’t win with the scales. They are a tyranny. I’ll maybe go for one more weigh-in before Christmas. Ah yes, Christmas. Right, that’s enough of that. You’re going to be bombarded with ARE YOU SHOPPING? WELL, ARE YOU!!!! messages for the rest of the month. Not here. This is a safe place to come where I’ll try not to make you feel panicky about the whole wretched business.
More later in the week. Have a good Monday whatever you’re doing. And thanks for listening.
